BCM Engineers (a division of ATC Group Services, LLC) is designing modifications to two existing sludge pumping stations to convert them from submersible stations to wet well-dry well stations at the Philadelphia Water Department Baxter Water Treatment Plant. Sci-Tek provided geotechnical engineering services for this project including the following:
- Review of available site drawings, geotechnical reports, and test boring information for the site.
- Geotechnical exploration which included two standard test borings, laboratory testing of select samples of material recovered from the test borings, and evaluation of subsurface conditions at the test boring locations.
- Preparation of Preliminary Report based on the data obtained which presented opinions on the following:
- Fill, soil, rock, groundwater conditions and site class for seismic loading
- Earthwork procedures for the design bearing pressures at the dry well slab
- Recommended fill materials and compaction requirements
- Recommended values for lateral earth pressure for the new dry well and temporary shoring
- Estimated differential settlement for the existing wet well and the new dry well
- Recommendations for retaining wall for extension of driveway
