Sci-Tek provided design services for rehabilitation and other repairs related to pavement, curbing, and sidewalks at the Pittsburgh International Airport Landside Terminal’s Extended-Term Parking (Area A) and in the Central Service’s Receiving Area (Receiving Area). The anticipated repairs in Area A are full-depth pavement replacement, limited sidewalk and curb replacement, and stormwater inlet and utility manhole elevation adjustments. Area A encompasses approximately 1.8 acres and consists of the airport’s extended-term parking areas 11a, 11b, 13a, and 13b. Extensive concrete pavement repairs are anticipated in the Receiving Area, which encompasses approximately 0.5 acres and consists of pavement traversed by delivery trucks and the receiving dock’s horizontal surfaces. Sci-Tek provided the following services:

SURVEYING

  • Performed field topography survey in Area A and the Receiving Area based upon existing airport geodetic control points.
  • Identified limits of pavement and locations of curbs, signs, pavement markings, manholes, and inlets affected by pavement repair and replacement in Area A and the Receiving Area.
  • Provided survey plans of existing conditions for Area A and the Receiving Area.

 CIVIL ENGINEERING

  • Coordinated the drilling of core borings to determine thickness of the pavement section.
  • Provided plans to support the demolition and reconstruction of the pavement at each location, including MPT and E&S control plans.
  • Prepared construction cost estimates of the site related components with the design submissions milestones.
  • Prepared technical specifications for site related components.
  • Provided bidding services including site preconstruction visit, response to contractor questions, and issue of addendum documents.
  • Provided construction administrative services including submittal review, review of Requests for Information, site visits during construction, and the project final inspection.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

As a subconsultant to Sci-Tek, CDM Smith provided a structural evaluation of the Central Services Loading Dock to determine the limits of replacement and plans to remove and replace the top portion of the loading dock to facilitate drainage.
