Queen Lane Raw Water Pump Station/Intake

Philadelphia Water Department has identified a need for improvements at the Queen Lane Raw Water Pump Station/Intake. The project will be split in 2 phases. The first phase involves new standby generators and switchgear including associated connections and other improvements. The second phase will be an intake facility renovation and the replacement of two pumps.  As a subconsultant to HDR, Sci-Tek provided the following services:

GPR UTILITY LOCATION SERVICES

  • Provided coordination with a contractor to scan the site to confirm/deny the presence of underground storage tanks (USTs), locate subsurface utilities and clear soil borings.

 SURVEYING

  • Provided a topographic survey of the existing site conditions and an existing conditions survey drawing showing the features surveyed for the tract of land designated as 4530 Ridge Ave.
  • Performed a survey of the marks designating the location of underground utilities (Quality Level B).

 ENVIRONMENTAL

  • Provided a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment for the eastern portion of the parent property located along 4530 Ridge Avenue to provide professional opinions on the potential for Recognized Environmental Conditions, which may require remedial action.

 GEOTECHNICAL

  • Performed geotechnical exploration including drilling standard test borings for general soil and rock characterization within the generators’ pad, switchgear building, and access roadway.
  • Installed “permanent” groundwater monitoring wells for groundwater level observations to facilitate analyses.
  • Performed Dynamic Cone Penetration tests to estimate the California Bearing Ratio of subgrade soils at selected locations along the proposed access roadway surface.
  • Prepared a Geotechnical Report including conclusions and recommendations for the proposed structures and also recommended pavement thickness for the access roadway.
