Mon/Fayette Expressway (MFE) system consists of four independent but interconnected projects between I-68 near Morgantown, WV and I-376 in Monroeville, PA. Today, the MFE is completed and open to traffic from I-68 in WV to PA Route 51 in Jefferson Hills Borough in southeastern Allegheny County, creating 54 continuous miles of expressway. Century Engineering was selected by the PTC to provide Property Management & Demolition Services for Sections 53A – 53C, Route 51 to I-376. Approximately 150 dwellings & structures (mostly residential) will be removed prior to construction over the next 3-5 years. When construction of the entire 14-mile PA Route 51 to I-376 Project is complete, the MFE will stretch 68 miles from I-68 near Morgantown, West Virginia to I-376 in Monroeville, Allegheny County.

As a subconsultant to Century Engineering, Sci-Tek provided asbestos and hazardous materials surveys of 10 residential properties that were scheduled to be demolished. The results of the surveys are to be incorporated with demolition plans to be submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry which are necessary to secure permits for removal of properties for the Mon-Fayette Expressway Project.

Sampling was performed according to current EPA sampling requirements and samples were submitted to a National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) laboratory for analysis. Prepared a final report including type, condition, and location of identified asbestos, a list of areas containing Universal Wastes observed, and recommended response actions.
