Sci-Tek performed a limited pavement investigation associated with the relocation of Taxiway P at the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The investigation included 6-inch diameter cores and logging of existing concrete or asphalt pavement at 8 of 23 test boring locations; Continuous Standard Penetration Tests at 19 of 23 test boring locations; Shelby Tube samples; laboratory testing, including soil/cement testing on soil sample at the 23 boring locations; test boring logs; and summarized data obtained at the boring locations, field, and laboratory test results. For this scope of work Sci-Tek:
- Developed a work plan for project planning and management.
- Performed a PA-1 Call for final design according to PA Act 287, which provided an indication of the presence of subsurface utilities at the Site.
- Drilled Standard, Auger, Thin-Wall Pavement, and Test Pit Borings at select locations with the footprint of Taxiway P. Upon completion, the driller back-filled all borings with excess drill cuttings to within 3-feet of the ground surface, or to a lessor depth that the available drill cutting allowed.
- Provided a full-time project representative during drilling.
- Selected representative samples of the fill recovered from two test pits and 12 test borings for laboratory asbestos. Each sample was inspected for asbestos and the results were summarized in a written report.
- Prepared typed Engineer’s Logs of the subsurface data obtained.
- Prepared a report, which contained test boring and core logs, and asbestos and materials testing laboratory results.
