Sci-Tek provided engineering and consulting services as part of a Pittsburgh Regional Transit On-Call Inspection and Engineering Services contract which includes the Bridge Management System and Bridge Inspection Program and performing inspections on tunnels, radio towers, the Inclines, fixed guideways, retaining walls, and other transit structures. As a subconsultant to the prime engineering firm GAI, Sci-Tek provided geotechnical engineering services for the following task orders:

  • PENN AVENUE BRIDGE REPLACEMENT – Performed a subsurface investigation at the East Busway bridge that crosses Penn Avenue:
    • Drilled 5 standard test borings to characterize the bridge abutments, bridge foundations, as well as for general characterization of the soil and rock below and behind bridge foundations.
    • Selected representative samples of the material recovered for laboratory testing.
    • Performed geotechnical analyses related to foundation design.
    • Provided a Subsurface Exploration Report sealed by a Professional Engineer with testing information, conclusions, and recommendations for engineering parameters.
  • KELLY AVENUE & RACE STREET BRIDGE REPLACEMENTS – Performed a subsurface exploration on the East Busway at the Kelly Avenue and Race Street Bridges:
    • Drilled 8 standard test borings to characterize the bridge abutments, bridge foundations, as well as for general characterization of the soil and rock below and behind bridge foundations.
    • Drill 15 unsampled test borings to determine the depth from the busway surface to the top of each bridge arch.
    • Performed geotechnical analyses related to foundation design.
    • Provided a Subsurface Exploration Report sealed by a Professional Engineer with testing information, conclusions, and recommendations for engineering parameters.
