Sci-Tek provided engineering services for PennDOT as a sub consultant under an environmental open-end contract (#E02428).  Task orders have included a hazardous materials survey and asbestos abatement specifications for a commercial building, and a noise study along Route 228 and Route 8 for the SR 228 Balls Bend Realignment Project.  The noise study was conducted and intended to improve capacity, safety, and mobility and accommodate the 17,000 vehicles (8% trucks) that travel the roadway daily along the Route 228 Corridor in Cranberry, Adams, and Middlesex Townships, and Seven Fields Borough in Butler County.

Sci-Tek conducted an asbestos containing materials (ACM) survey for suspect materials within the interior and exterior of a furniture store building in preparation of building renovations.  Sci-Tek provided an EPA-accredited and Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (PADOLI)-certified Asbestos Building Inspector to:

  • Collect asbestos bulk samples according to current EPA and OSHA sampling requirements, which recommend a minimum of two samples to confirm a negative for miscellaneous materials.
  • Submit asbestos bulk samples to a National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) accredited laboratory for analysis.
  • Prepare a final report which includes:
  • Identified ACM including type, condition and estimated quantities, bulk sample methodology based on the observations and findings, and laboratory reports,
  • Recommended response actions, and
  • Certify specifications for abatement of asbestos containing materials.
  • Prepare and submit an asbestos abatement drawing which detailed the locations of asbestos containing materials.
