The Port Authority of Allegheny County (PAAC) is planning a new ADA compliant ramp/stairway structure to replace the existing stairway from Jasper Street to the transit stop at South Hills Junction. The existing stairway is approximately 150 feet in length and connects the eastern end of Jasper St. to the South Busway at South Hills Junction, which is 35-ft lower in elevation. The Jasper St. ADA Stair and Ramp Project consists of the demolition of the existing stairway and construction of a new structure, which will be a multi-level ramp with switchbacks running parallel to the busway and supported on several pillars.
As a subconsultant to GAI, Sci-Tek performed a geotechnical subsurface exploration, including the following tasks:
- Performed a subsurface exploration for proposed ramp/stair system which is being designed by GAI.
- Presented conclusions (professional opinions) on the following based on the data obtained at the test boring locations, visual observations, laboratory test results, and the analyses performed:
- Fill conditions
- Soil conditions
- Rock conditions
- Groundwater conditions
- Provided a Geotechnical Report based on the data obtained at the test boring locations, visual observations, laboratory test results, and the analyses performed. The report included recommendations for design and cost estimation.
