The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh retained GBBN Architects, Inc. (GBBN) to design renovations and a new addition to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Knoxville Branch. The finished project received a 2016 AIA Pittsburgh Chapter Honor Award for the transformation of the 1962 built, brutalist styled library building into an engaging and inviting space for the diverse Knoxville community.
As a member of GBBN’s engineering design team, Sci-Tek provided site civil design services, inclusive of:
- A PA One Call for utility coordination.
- A grading drawing and site civil plan and details for submission to Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority for the stormwater and sanitary piping.
- An erosion and sedimentation control drawing, including details of Best Management Practices and corresponding technical specifications for the contractor to follow during construction activities.
The site design incorporated a rain garden for stormwater management.
This project received a 2016 Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Pittsburgh Chapter and a 2016 Excellence in Design Award from the AIA Pennsylvania Chapter. The stormwater management strategy was mentioned by the jury of the Pennsylvania Chapter as one of the notable attributes of the design.
