Sci-Tek provided hazardous materials abatement design, bidding, and construction administration services associated with renovations to Clapp Hall at the University of Pittsburgh. This project was managed by the Pennsylvania Department of General Services. The tasks associated with Sci-Tek’s scope of work included:
- An Initial Cost Estimate - Sci-Tek conducted a visual survey of the building to assess hazardous materials quantification and location, reviewed existing environmental reports, and provided a preliminary cost estimate for abatement of asbestos containing materials and disposal of hazardous materials.
- An Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) Survey - Sci-Tek provided an EPA-accredited and Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (PADOLI)-certified Asbestos Building Inspector and Project Designer to perform asbestos sampling and prepare a final report.
- A Lead Based Paint (LBP) and Hazardous Materials Survey - Sci-Tek provided a PA Department of Labor & Industry licensed Lead Risk Assessor to obtain LBP samples and provide a written report which included a list of identified painted surfaces containing lead. The report also listed the suspect mercury, PCBs (associated with transformers and capacitors, and fluorescent light ballasts), and other hazardous building materials. In addition, quantities, sample methodology, sample locations, laboratory reports, recommended response actions and conclusions were included.
- Abatement Design Services - Sci-Tek provided design and bid phase services associated with abatement of ACM and hazardous materials, including abatement cost estimates and specifications, an abatement plan drawing, general notes and precautions for working with surfaces containing lead-based paint, bid documents and addenda as required, and attendance at the pre-bid meeting.
- Air Monitoring Services - Sci-Tek provided area and clearance air monitoring during asbestos abatement activities to document compliance with applicable regulations.
