Sci-Tek was retained by AWK Consulting Engineers, Inc. to provide environmental services inclusive of asbestos testing and abatement services for the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh’s Phase I Redevelopment of Allegheny Dwellings.

Located in the Fineview neighborhood of Pittsburgh, the site includes barrack-style housing units and vacant land. Phase I Redevelopment consisted of the relocation of 97 households followed by the demolition of 6 barrack-style buildings. The site will be redeveloped with approximately 60 to 80 units of housing including townhouses, walkups, and multi-story buildings. As part of the scope of work, Sci-Tek provided EPA-accredited and Pennsylvania-certified Asbestos Inspectors to:

  • Collect asbestos bulk samples of the existing housing units. Sampling was generally performed according to current EPA and OSHA sampling requirements, which recommend a minimum of two samples to confirm a negative.
  • Submit asbestos bulk samples to a National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program accredited laboratory for analysis.
  • Prepare a final report which includes identified asbestos containing materials including location, type, condition and estimated quantities, bulk sample methodology, laboratory reports, site photographs, and recommended response actions.
  • Provide asbestos air monitoring and onsite project consultation during asbestos abatement activities.
