Representative Projects:

  • Site design for a new de-icing wastewater plant at the Greater Pittsburgh Airport
Sci-Tek designed weirs, walls, force mains, stormwater structures, pump stations, and inlet structures for a new de-icing wastewater treatment plant at the Greater Pittsburgh Airport. Sci-Tek also prepared all documents for an NPDES permit for wastewater discharges and subsequent dam permits.
  • Evaluation of the performance and maintenance of an oil/water separator
    for the US Army
The US Army base in Clarksburg, WV, retained Sci-Tek to evaluate the performance of and review/revise the maintenance procedures for an oil/water separator. Sci-Tek engineers then identified the alterations and repairs needed to assure that discharges for the separator cannot enter local streams and waterways.
  • Construction inspection at various sites for Allegheny County, PA, and PennDot
Sci-Tek is providing a wide range of construction inspection services for Allegheny County, PA and PennDot. Included in the scope of work is review of documents for compliance and of schedules for adherence to contractual terms; documenting progress with photos and reports; coordinating quality assurance with manufacturers; administrating cost control procedures; and assuring compliance with EEO, safety, and other regulations. In addition, Sci-Tek is writing final inspection checklists and is red-lining as-built drawings.
  • Weekly monitoring of the flow in sanitary sewers in Allegheny County, PA
The combined sewers in Allegheny County, PA, tend to overflow during wet weather, prompting the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) to contract with Sci-Tek to monitor the flow along the interceptor system and watershed points of connection to uncover patterns that would help with correcting the problem most efficiently. Sci-Tek provides data review and monthly reports including graphs.
  • Wet weather engineering and planning for the Allegheny County
    Sanitary Authority
ALCOSAN (Allegheny County Sanitary Authority), as part of its plan to reduce the effects of rain and groundwater infiltration into its wastewater sewers, engaged Sci-Tek to assist with planning, perform quality reviews of monitored wastewater flow data, project and assess future conditions in the watersheds, and perform various modeling services. Sci-Tek personnel also assisted in the sewershed delineation of 400+ countywide connections to the ALCOSAN system. This information was used to populate a model, which identifies system loading, collection inefficiencies, and projects system needs and improvements.
